In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Gold Standard identified a critical need for medical personnel to access evacuee prescription histories during widespread disasters requiring evacuation to shelters and other points of care. Within days of Hurricane Katrina’s landfall in New Orleans, Gold Standard deployed KatrinaHealth.org, a public service web application that allowed medical personnel responding to the disaster to search thousands of prescription histories in the course of providing care to evacuees.

KatrinaHealth.org garnered high praise from the healthcare community, as well as federal and state agencies. The initiative earned prestigious accolades for Gold Standard and its partners, including the American Pharmacists Association 2006 Pinnacle Award.

In the year following Hurricane Katrina, Gold Standard developed ICERx.org as a proactive strategy to provide this essential public service as a permanently available solution.

ICERx.org

ICERx.org (In Case of Emergency Prescription History Service) is a public-service resource developed by Gold Standard and its partners in the healthcare community to help ensure continuity of quality care for the victims of future disasters. Once authenticated, licensed prescribers and pharmacists caring for patients in an emergency situation will be able to securely access a patient’s medication history by logging onto www.ICERx.org. ICERx.org also provides caregivers with drug reference information and valuable clinical decision support tools, such as therapeutic duplication and interaction alerts.
