More than ever, Americans are interested in understanding their own health and taking charge of their own healthcare. Yet studies indicate that health literacy – a person’s ability to answer the question, “How do I keep myself well?” – is at an all time low. While taking the first steps to managing personal healthcare can be intimidating, Informed Decisions develops products that empower consumers with important knowledge to help them feel confident that they’re making truly informed healthcare choices. Using our vast library of clinical information and our technological expertise in delivering accurate and timely knowledge content, Informed Decisions develops rich, interactive resources that consumers can use and understand to become actively involved in managing personal healthcare.

WIRED (Wellness, Information, Rewards and e-PHR’s for people with Diabetes) is a best-in-class online resource that can help people with diabetes feel a greater sense of empowerment – and accomplishment – by linking their collected health information to diabetes-specific tools, and giving them a chance to earn rewards for taking an active role in the management of their disease. The WIRED website allows participants and their designated caregivers to take interactive assessments that test and challenge their level of knowledge about diabetes, and earn immediate, tangible rewards from merchants participating in the program. As part of the National Changing Life with Diabetes Program (NCDP), WIRED equips users with practical tools and attainable rewards they can earn from becoming more proactive, better informed health consumers.

With a focus on empowering consumers to better manage chronic disease, Informed Decisions participated in a collaborative effort sponsored by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) to create a disease management tool that educates the general public on health and wellness and seeks to reduce the burden of chronic disease in the community. The best-in-class Web site developed by Informed Decisions as part of this effort seeks to help consumers better manage their health by tracking diet and exercise goals. Online health assessment tools enable consumers to gain an understanding of their health and risk factors for disease. Coupled with education and health screenings which raise consumer awareness of risk factors and effective disease prevention strategies and nutrition and fitness events to promote diet and exercise, the program met with positive response in areas in California and Mississippi.
